Partitioning the virtual hard disk image.

fdisk

In the previous pages we used Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 to create a virtual PC for Windows 98.
The virtual hard disk, a floppy drive and a CD ROM drive have been assigned to the new virtual PC.
At this point virtual hard disk image that was created earlier is empty. It has no partitions, and is unformatted.

  • After 'rebooting', on the previous page

it continues on and prompts us to partition the new C drive.
  • The Virtual hard disk needs to be setup to install windows.. so we'll do fdisk and format on it. Enter the command
    fdisk (and press ENTER)

Enable large Disk Support, answer Y

Create a DOS partition... enter 1

Create the primary DOS partition, press 1

Use the entrire hard disk image, press Y

Fdisk runs.. when it completes it tells you to press ESC and then reboot the Virtual PC, press the ESC key.

  • Reboot the Virtual PC in the same way we did earlier. You can either use the menu, or press Right-Alt + Del

  • On the next page we will format the Virtual PC and install Windows 98
